National Day Celebrations
On 6th August 2015, our school celebrated our nation’s 50th birthday. Weeks before the actual celebration, familiar and past National Day songs were broadcast over the PA system. Naturally our National Day celebrations would not be complete without the fringe activities organized in accordance to this year’s National Day theme “Onward Singapore.”
The lower primary pupils did a colouring activity whilst the upper primary pupils made their own SG50 logo during their Art Lessons. The children played various traditional games such as Marbles(Goli) and Gasing(Spinning top) during their recesses prior to the National Day.
The first half of the National Day celebrations kicked off with the observance ceremony as the Scouts and Brownies marched-in with pride. For the second half, Mrs Lam read the National Day message to the school and Recollections by the Student Leaders followed after.
Prizes were then given out to the deserving winners of the different level art activities and classroom decorations. Next, there was a brief introduction to show how much Singapore has achieved for the past 50 years. A video ensued after with regards to pupils being interviewed on how much they know about Singapore and their community songs.
Needless to say, the celebrations would not be complete without the long awaited sing along session of old and familiar, evergreen National Day songs. Truly, it was a jubilant and fantastic celebration of how far Singapore has come. Happy 50th Birthday, Singapore!
