Racial Harmony Day 2015

Every year on the 21st of July, schools in Singapore commemorate Racial Harmony Day to mark the anniversary of the 1964 racial riots. This year, the theme for Racial Harmony Day is “Harmony in Our Hands”.  A series of exciting activities have been lined up for students to deepen their understanding of racial harmony in Yangzheng Primary School.

During the week of Racial Harmony Day, Yangzhengnites had the opportunity to try out the different traditional games during recess and watch the assembly programme skit put up by IADN. The skit reminded pupils about the importance of understanding one another’s culture and celebrating it together as a Yangzheng family.  The P1 pupils also participated in the “Harmony Works” Programme during a level assembly and a group of students from Conversational Chinese and Malay (CCM) performed a Malay song during recess.

Through the activities on Racial Harmony Day, Yangzhengnites will learn to make friends with people of other races and religions. They will also learnt that in Singapore, people are treated equally regardless of their race and religion, and students should appreciate the different cultures that make up Singapore.
