Racial Harmony Day 2016

Every year on the 21st of July, schools in Singapore commemorate Racial Harmony Day to mark the anniversary of the 1964 racial riots. Our Cultural Heritage, the theme of this year’s Racial Harmony Day, encourages our pupils to value Singapore’s cultural diversity. Thus, a series of exciting activities have been lined up for students to deepen their understanding of racial harmony in Yangzheng.

During assembly, we had pupils from the Conversational Malay Chinese program to perform for us. We also had students and teachers on stage for a Chapteh competition. During recess, the students had chances to experience activities of different ethnic groups.

We had booths that teach the students how to make the “Bunga Mangga”, Chinese knots and “Gajra” (Flower Garland).  The children also have a chance to play with the traditional games during the week but the most exciting activity would be the trishaw ride! The school had arranged for a trishaw to give students a ride in the school compound to let the students experienced how people travelled in the past.
