Total Defence Day

This year, Yangzheng Primary School commenced a series of activities on 13th February 2017 to commemorate Total Defence Day. The police officers from the Serangoon Neighbourhood Police Centre and staff from the Singapore Red Cross Society were invited to interact with our pupils through their exhibits and activities to bring forth this year's Total Defence theme, "Together We Keep Singapore Strong."

In between the visits, pupils had the chance to experience the Standard Obstacle Course (SOC) that soldiers undergo during their military training. The modified version of the SOC, set up in the school hall received an overwhelming response from the pupils. A food rationing exercise was also conducted for Primary 3 to 6 pupils to remind pupils about the importance of appreciating our nation's limited resource.

During the assembly programme, inspiring stories of our war heroes were shared to remind our pupils about the resilience put up by the people of Singapore during war times. As the nation commemorates 50 years since the establishment of National Service (NS) in Singapore, teachers who have served NS also shared about their experience to highlight Singapore's continual commitment towards our nation's defence. To remind and empower pupils to play their part for Total Defence, our pupils emcees shared about the SGSecure movement and how each and every Singaporean can play their part to ensure Singapore remain safe and secure.
