Chinese New Year Celebration
Yangzheng Primary School ushered in the Year of the Ox with a host of festivities on 11th February. In light of the COVID- 19 situation, this year’s celebration took place in the form of a virtual concert.
To kick-start the celebrations, students were engaged in pre-concert classroom activities. They learnt about the Chinese custom associated with Chinese New Year and had a hands-on session making Chinese Knots “如意结” in the class. It was great joy to see pupils of different races, coming together to understand Chinese culture and traditions.
Our Principal, Mrs Lim-Foo visited the P6 classes with our Yangzheng “God of Wealth”. Mrs Lim-Foo sent her couplet of good luck to each P6 class and fortune cookies to all P6 pupils. This is to wish our graduating cohort all the very best for their PSLE.
Giving mandarin oranges signifies blessing of prosperity upon the recipient. Here’s our school leaders giving the staff a pair of mandarin oranges as part of the Chinese tradition.
After the pre-concert segment, we started the virtual concert with a pre-recorded lion dance performance. Students were thrilled by the amazing footwork of our Yeung Ching Scouts Lion Dance Troupe as they set everyone’s hearts palpitating with excitement.
Next, we revealed the results of the Best Decorated Classroom competition. All classes participated in the Best Decorated Classroom competition. Both teachers and pupils worked together and put in their finest efforts to put up the festive decorations to brighten up the classrooms. These are some of the winning classes:
Mrs Lim-Foo, gave out red packets to our Operational Support Staff and contract cleaners, wishing them good health for the New Year.
Our talented Yangzhenites put up a stellar performance and brought festive joy to the audience. We had Guzheng, Wushu and Chinese Dance CCA groups showcasing their talent in this celebration.
The concert ended with a delightful Chinese New Year Music Video by our CL department teachers.
It was a fun-filled Lunar New Year celebration for everyone. Our staff and students had an enjoyable day.
We would like to take the opportunity to wish everyone 身体健康 (shēntǐ jiànkāng - Enjoy good health), 学习进步 (xuéxí jìnbù - Progress in studies), 心想事成 (xīnxiǎng shì chéng - May all your wishes come true) and of course, 新年快乐 (xīnnián kuàilè - Happy New Year)!
