International Friendship Day
Yangzheng Primary School commemorated International Friendship Day (IFD) on 12th and 14th April 2021. Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, the commemoration was carried out via online platforms.
The theme for International Friendship Day this year is “Singapore In The World.” In line with the theme, a video presentation was shown to the pupils during assembly. Pupils got to know that Singapore has a presence on the world stage through the inscription of its hawker culture on UNESCO. The pupils also gained a better understanding of how Singapore plays its part in helping other ASEAN countries and beyond through various platforms and initiatives. The assembly segment concluded with a short quiz which encapsulates the key learning points of being a good friend and the importance of collaborating with one another.
For in-class activities, the lower primary pupils had the opportunity to identify the ten ASEAN member states as well as the greetings of the member states. The middle primary pupils gained a better awareness of the different traditions and cultures of the different ASEAN countries as well as discussion on what Singapore can do to help other countries. Last but not least, the upper primary pupils shared their reflections on what it means for Singapore to work together with other ASEAN countries as one community and the benefits of working together as a community. Prizes were awarded for the best reflections. All pupils shared their reflections to consolidate their IFD learning experiences in their reflection sheets.
