Total Defence Day 2019
Yangzheng Primary School commemorated Total Defence Day from 11 February 2019 to 14 February 2019. In line with the theme for this year’s commemoration "Together We Keep Singapore Strong", a series of meaningful and exciting activities were lined up for the pupils to gain a better understanding of the 6 different pillars of Total Defence, with the introduction of Digital Defence as the sixth pillar of the Total Defence framework.
To provide pupils a glimpse into the experience of our forefathers during the war period, Primary 3 to 6 pupils were given food rationing coupons to exchange for food items such as sweet potatoes and plain porridge during their recesses. Pupils also had the opportunity to better understand the role of our police officers through the awareness booth set up by the police officers from the neighbouring police post.
The Singapore Red Cross Society was also invited to equip our pupils with simple first aid skills and knowledge and their interactive activities were well received by our pupils. In line with the introduction of Digital Defence, the teachers and ambassadors from the Cyberwellness Team capped off the recess activities with their cyber defence exhibition to provide Yangzhengnites with key takeaways in this increasingly volatile digital age.
For the assembly segment, pupils had the opportunity to watch a skit put up by Red Cross titled, “The Adventure of Captain Red Cross” where they get to learn more about first aid from the characters of Alice and Daniel. A video, put up by our teachers who have served in National Service (NS), reiterates the importance of NS and how every individuals’ contribution goes a long way towards the nation’s security.
Knowing our body parts helps improve our first aid knowledge!! Pupils are undergoing training to be Police investigators! Looking smart in the police outfit! Pupils finding out more useful tips at the cyberwellness booth.
